David Wilson Homes South Midlands has recently sponsored a charity golf day raising money in support of Stroke Association.

Twenty teams made up of 80 golfers, 10 helpers and numerous local businesses engaged in the tournament which was held at Ely City Golf Club in Ely.

The funds raised on the day, totalling £12,000, have been donated to Stroke Association, a charity dedicated to supporting those who have had a stroke and their families, funding critical research, and campaigning for better stroke care across the country.

The Stroke Association is a cause close to the heart of the event organiser and their family. With the charity’s support, the golf day also helped raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of strokes which is knowledge that could one day save a life and spare other families the pain of losing a loved one.

Stuart Porter, Organiser of the event, said: “I lost my dad to a stroke last June out of the blue. He was healthy, didn't drink or smoke and was in shape and suddenly had a stroke and I lost him within three days. As you can imagine, that was devastating and a really tough time trying to piece together why this has happened.

“I realised how little I knew about strokes, even though they are one of the biggest killers. So, I wanted to do something to raise awareness within the community between men of a certain age and thought the best way to reach that goal would be to organise a golf day.

“I hope to have spread awareness on the symptoms of strokes, and I cannot thank everyone involved for their support, it was truly an amazing day.”

David Wilson Homes South Midlands was proud to sponsor the charity golf day, recognising the event’s meaningful cause. The sponsorship included a variety of contributions such as prize sponsorship and programme sponsorship which totalled £1,450.

Ben Kalus, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes South Midlands, said: “We’re proud to support the Stroke Association and contribute to a cause that truly makes a difference. The charity golf day was a fantastic way to unite people, raise vital funds, and promote awareness of stroke symptoms which is knowledge that can genuinely save lives.

“It was a privilege to be part of such a meaningful event, helping ensure more individuals receive the care and support they need.”
