Brown Owl gives 50 years service to Peterborough Unit

This weekend Girlguiding Cambs West celebrated a large number of our 588 volunteers as they have hit key long service milestones, and we came together for a celebration of their time.
The milestones are anything from 5, 10, 20, 30 and 40 years service. The total number of years service being awarded this year is a whopping 570 years.
Alongside all the wonderful volunteers celebrated this weekend, Angela Cowling was awarded her 50 years service. Giving 50 years service to your community is no mean feat on its own, however nearly all of those have been with the same unit! Angela and her Mum opened 1st Welland Brownies (Dogsthorpe) in 1977, and after her Mum retired Angela became the Brown Owl.
Angela started her Girlguiding journey aged just 9, when she begged her Mum to join Brownies. Her mum ended up returning to help lead the unit she had been volunteering at prior to Angela being born! Angela then continued through the sections and completed her leadership qualification as soon as she turned 18.
Angela's Girlguiding journey has been entirely based in Peterborough, and she has many wonderful stories to tell of the adventures they have been on. Alongside countless families and generations have passed through 1st Welland Brownies in this time and I'm sure many will remember Brown Owl!
