Students from Peterborough Regional College have taken part in a three-week technical education programme at Amazon’s fulfilment centre in Peterborough.

The programme gave 12 Business and IT students the opportunity to spend time on site, developing their digital and workplace skills. During three weeks, students learned how to code, got an insight into Amazon’s logistics and worked on both small and large group projects designed to mirror real-life problem solving.

The programme concluded with a graduation ceremony, where students showcased their own innovative projects to the Amazon team. Drawing on the skills and knowledge they had gained over the three weeks, the students presented creative solutions in a ‘Dragon’s Den’-style format.

Tomislav Batinic, Site Leader at Amazon in Peterborough, said: “At Amazon in Peterborough, we’re passionate about helping young people unlock their potential. It’s been inspiring to see students embrace coding, cloud technology and teamwork throughout the programme. We’re proud to support them as they take their next steps toward becoming tomorrow’s business and technology leaders.”

Jensen Maughan, one of the students who took part in the programme added: “This experience has helped me learn so many new skills. I’ve really enjoyed the projects and working with the Amazon team. Presenting our ideas to them has been a highlight, and I feel more confident about my future career.”

Community donations and employee volunteering are just two of the ways Amazon supports the communities where it operates. Amazon co-founded the Multibank initiative with former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown to support families in need. The initiative has donated more than 12 million surplus goods to over 800,000 families across Scotland, Wales, Greater Manchester, London, Tees Valley and Birmingham. This year, the Multibank will send 1 million orders to families across the UK.

Amazon has supported more than one million students across the UK with free STEM education programmes through Amazon Future Engineer and helps community organisations transport meals and other essentials to families in need through its pro bono logistics programme, Amazon Local Good.

Amazon partners with Comic Relief and is the official home of the charity’s iconic Red Nose. Together with its employees, customers, and partners, Amazon has raised over £4.8 million to fund projects that support people across the UK, and around the world.
