Young Performers Academy CIC opens in Peterborough with professional triple threat training, Ofsted registration and funded summer programme

A brand-new chapter for performing arts in Peterborough has begun with the launch of Young Performers Academy CIC (YPA) – a specialist musical theatre academy dedicated to developing confident, versatile young performers through professional training in dance, singing and acting.

Operating from The Rehearsal Room at Peterborough One Retail Park, YPA has been created to offer young people access to industry-led performing arts education in a safe, supportive and inspiring environment.

One of the academy’s first major milestones is becoming Ofsted Registered, reflecting its commitment to high standards of safeguarding, leadership and welfare. The registration gives families confidence that their children are learning within a professionally managed organisation where wellbeing is placed at the heart of every decision.

YPA also believes it is the only musical theatre training provider for young people in Peterborough to hold Ofsted registration, reinforcing its ambition to raise the standard of youth performing arts education across the region.

Free Taster Day

To celebrate its launch, Young Performers Academy is inviting families to attend a FREE Taster Day on Saturday 15th August, giving children the opportunity to experience professional triple threat training before the new term begins.

Open to children aged 5–16, with groups split by age and ability, the taster day will introduce young performers to classes in dance, singing and acting, while allowing families to meet the faculty and experience YPA’s purpose-built studios.

Places are free but must be booked in advance via the academy’s website.

Fully Funded Summer Programme

Alongside its official launch, YPA is also introducing a fully funded summer holiday programme for secondary school-aged young people living in Peterborough.

The initiative has been designed to remove financial barriers and provide access to high-quality performing arts experiences during the school holidays. Participants will work alongside professional teachers, developing confidence, creativity and performance skills through workshops in dance, singing and acting.

Funded by Peterborough City Council, local performers (or beginners) aged 11+ can register for the summer programme on the YPA website.

Professional Weekly Training

Following the summer programme, Young Performers Academy will begin its weekly Saturday timetable, with classes carefully designed around different age groups and stages of development.

Students receive integrated triple threat training, ensuring every young performer develops equally across dance, singing and acting rather than specialising in just one discipline.

Training is delivered by a team of qualified and experienced teachers with professional industry backgrounds across musical theatre, dance, vocal coaching and acting. Alongside recognised teaching qualifications, faculty members hold enhanced safeguarding and first aid training, ensuring students learn within a safe, supportive and professionally managed environment.

Unlike many recreational performing arts schools, YPA has invested in professional equipment to replicate industry experiences. Training takes place in fully equipped studios with a professional microphone system, allowing students to develop stagecraft, microphone technique, vocal projection and live performance skills from an early stage.

Recognised Qualifications

Students will also have the opportunity to work towards nationally recognised qualifications through both LAMDA examinations in acting and communication, and IDTA Musical Theatre examinations, enabling young performers to gain valuable qualifications while building confidence and performance experience.

Performance Opportunities

Young Performers Academy has been created with performance at its heart.

Throughout the year, students will have opportunities to perform in showcases, community events and theatre productions, allowing them to put their training into practice in front of live audiences while developing confidence, teamwork and stage presence.

Whether a child dreams of performing professionally or simply wants to grow in confidence, YPA aims to provide every student with an inspiring pathway to reach their full potential.
