Training manager wins award at Peterborough bus operator for apprentice mentoring programme

Peterborough bus operator, Stagecoach East’s Training Manager has won its Star of the Month Award after designing and delivering a project to improve the mentoring of its young Engineers.

Ian de Chastelain was nominated in the category of ‘We Plan For The Future’ after leading an eight-month project to develop a new training course, which is now being delivered to Deputy Engineering Managers and Stagecoach East’s top Technicians. As part of the project, he used his own knowledge and experience from car restoration to build bespoke training rigs so that Mentors can hone their skills.

The training course aims to give additional supportive skills to new Mentors, who can then go on to support the operator’s Engineering Apprentices as they go through their challenging four-year programme.

Last year, Ian won industry awards for his role in developing Stagecoach East’s partnership with Businesses Against Abuse to help prevent violence against women and girls.

Darren Roe, Managing Director of Stagecoach East, said: “My sincere thanks to the dedication and effort that Ian has put into this programme. I fully expect that other operating companies, once they see what we are doing here in Stagecoach East, will want to adopt the same programme for their own Apprentices.

“Star of the Month is a wonderful way to recognise people, like Ian, who go above and beyond to support their colleagues and encourage us in our journey to provide an even better service for our loyal customers in the region.”
