Summer loving for local care home residents

Residents at Bayleaf Care Home, in Huntingdon, are making the most of the weather as a new heatwave hits the UK and people across the region enjoy some of the warmest weather of the year so far.

Big parasols have been put up above the outdoor sitting area for those who enjoy a spot of al fresco dining, and sun hats and high factor sun cream are in abundance. The home has a wonderful enclosed garden and there are lots of shaded areas for residents to sit outside with a book or a drink.

With temperatures so high, it is important for everyone to keep hydrated. The hospitality team has been busy preparing jugs of ice tea and lemonade to help hydration levels. Strawberries and ice cream have been in high demand and the warm weather has brought with it memories of summers gone by, leading residents to reminisce about favourite summer holidays.

Resident, Margaret Davies said: “I love the warm weather. It’s so wonderful to be able to spend a little more time outside which I’m sure is good for both body and soul.”

General Manager at Bayleaf Care Home, Katie Wilkinson, said: "It is very important that residents enjoy this wonderful weather, and we look forward to finding activities that enable those who can to get outdoors where possible.  But it is also imperative that our residents stay cool and comfortable and don’t sustain a heat-related emergency.  We’ve been very creative in finding great ways to cool down while enjoying a little sunshine.”
