CareZone, which aims to alleviate the effects of furniture poverty for households on low incomes, took on the majority of items from a three-bedroom show home at Haddon Abbott, being delivered by Platform Home Ownership, which has just four homes remaining.

Among the items received by CareZone were all three beds, a television unit, a chest of drawers, bedside tables and a dressing table.

Part of the Compassion Community Action Projects organised by Kingsgate Community Church, the charity works with major health and social care providers, with recipients of its furniture assessed to ensure each item goes to a true place of need.

Its affiliated charity, Peterborough Foodbank, takes on food items for those in desperate need, contributing towards its goals to raise up local people.

Julie Gooding, Community Action Development Worker at CareZone, said: “It was wonderful to receive these much-needed items for people experiencing extreme furniture poverty in our city. We usually give away pre-loved items, so these amazing new items will bring such a smile to faces and hep spread the message of love, care, dignity, respect and hope that we strive for.

“I’d like to thank Platform for thinking of us and making a difference in the city with this generous donation.”

Platform is down to the final four of 57 Shared Ownership properties, with this donation part of what it sees as essential community engagement in the Peterborough area before it embarks on future schemes nearby.

The housing association has previously supported a local primary school through a donation of tennis equipment and a financial education session for Key Stage Two pupils about mortgages, saving and taxation.

A diverse range of buyers, from families and downsizers to first-time buyers and commuters, have secured a high-quality new home through Shared Ownership, purchasing their property as a share between 25 and 75%, paying a mortgage on that part and rent on the remainder.

Interest in the two-bedroom mid-terraced homes and three-bedroom semi-detached styles has been high, and the development is expected to reach full occupation this Spring.

Justyna Chohan, Sales Consultant at Platform Home Ownership, said: “The donation to CareZone is something we’re proud of at Platform. We always aim to support local communities through the lifecycle of our developments, and the sale of the show home always provides a great opportunity to make a big impact for people in those areas.

“Haddon Abbott has been a big success for Peterborough, with essential new amenities and infrastructure supporting the new residents to live within an exciting, ever-growing community.

“Given this, I’d expect the final four homes to be taken up very quickly, and would therefore suggest interested parties to get in touch with our friendly sales team right away.”

Haddon Abbott residents benefit from excellent connectivity, with the nearby A1(M) providing direct links to Peterborough, Huntingdon, Cambridge and beyond, as well as strong rail connections to London and the wider UK.

Peterborough offers a wide range of amenities, including shopping at Queensgate, independent cafes and restaurants, family attractions such as Ferry Meadows Country Park, and a range of primary and secondary schools. The nearby villages of Yaxley and Hampton provide further local conveniences.
