The team at Montague House Care Home on Keeling Lane were stunned to discover they had clocked up the incredible number of nominations for the ‘East of England’ finals of this year’s Great British Care Awards.

In the ‘Ancillary’ category alone, colleagues including receptionist Megan Chamberlain, Head Housekeeper Amy Lewis, Housekeeper Kash Wijaybandara and the Montague Housekeeping team all got individual nominations.

Meanwhile, both Hannah Ndungu and Sangeetha Wijerathna are shortlisted for the ‘Care Home Worker’ award, with Liam Gardner and Leighton Smyrk competing for ‘Care Home Chef/Cook’.

Home Manager Paula Yorkston Toy said: “It’s hard to put the pride I have for my team into words – this is a stunning achievement.

“To get 14 nominations is unprecedented and quite overwhelming. Everyone at Montague House is thrilled, and I hope all our nominees feel like winners already.”

Other shortlisted staff include Hermoine Maxwell for ‘Dementia Carer’, Pubudu Peiris for Care Home Front Line Leader and Kevin Donelley for ‘Care Newcomer’.

Annette Hawkins is named in the ‘Social Care Nurse’ category, Rosemarie Parks will compete for the ‘Activity Organiser’ award and the entire workforce is up for the ‘Care Home Team’ Award.

Aderio Rocha, Managing Director of operator Hamberley Care Homes, said: "This is a terrific achievement for the team at Montague House. Their hard work and dedication is greatly appreciated by us and has clearly impressed the judges.

“Receiving 14 nominations from a single care home is an exceptional accomplishment and reflects the passion, commitment and compassion shown by the team every day.

“It is perhaps no surprise that this recognition follows the home's recent CQC inspection, which rated Montague House ‘Outstanding’ in the Caring criterion. We hope they have even more reasons to celebrate at the regional finals."
