Since opening in June 2025, the care home has eagerly been waiting for the opportunity to secure a local allotment plot — and that wait is finally over!

General Manager Katie Wilkinson said: “The residents were delighted to hear that they had been allocated their very own plot, right next to the home. There is a real sense of excitement as everyone looks forward to getting stuck in and helping to transform the space into something truly special. Although there is plenty of work to be done, the residents cannot wait to roll up their sleeves, get their hands in the soil and see their ideas begin to take shape”.

Bayleaf resident John Whelan said “The allotment will provide a wonderful opportunity for us all to enjoy the outdoors, reconnect with nature and get involved in growing flowers, fruit and vegetables. Most importantly, it will be a place for everyone to spend time together, share memories and enjoy the simple pleasures of gardening”.

Bayleaf Care Home is run by Barchester Healthcare, one of the UK’s largest care providers, which is committed to delivering personalised care across its care homes and hospitals. Bayleaf Care Home provides residential care and nursing care for 53 residents from short-term respite care through to longer term stays.
