Tequila Circus

NEW VENUE: PE1 retail Park, Eye, March 5 to March 8

Direct from Mexico with their zingy new show, it is the Tequila Circus big top circus spectacular. There will be axe throwing Aztecans, high wire walking Mariachis, a cloud swinging monarch butterfly, death defying stunts, sombrero juggling and not forgetting the cheeky Mexican clown Picorete. (shows at Millfield Rec cancelled due to the weather)

Queen Katharine Academy, March 1

Thr annual East of England Model Show will be bigger than ever before, with 60 clubs displaying many hundreds of models. In addition, there will be 32 trade stands at the event sponsored by Stamford- based Airfix Model World magazine.

Local children’s author, Joanne Hutchinson will be launching her new picture book ‘Og’ about a friendly ogre who inspires children to read.

‘Og’ fuses rhyming story with spellbinding, vivid artwork, to take readers on a series of book-bound adventures alongside a friendly Ogre. It’s an adventure that will not only keep young readers entertained time and time again, but have them guessing which popular books Og listened to…and inspire them to read them, too.

Lunch talk

East of England Arena, March 2

Lt. Col. Neil Stace, “The Sewing Soldier” and finalist on The Great British Sewing Bee, will be speaking about his experiences from Sandhurst to Afghanistan at the charity lunch raising funds for Spalding Action Medical Research (AMR), a local branch of the leading UK charity, funding vital research to help defeat the diseases that devastate the lives of sick and disabled babies, children and young people. Throughout Stace’s career, sewing has always been a part of his life; his sewing machine went with him to Northern Ireland and Bosnia and his sewing skills were put to good use on several occasions in Afghanistan, including teaching Afghan women to sew.

Stace continues to serve in the Army, and will talk about his own experiences and how his sewing skills have been put to good use on the front line in Afghanistan, Bosnia and Northern Ireland. He also talks about the less dangerous but challenging experience of being a reality TV contestant on the Great British Sewing Bee.

Star Party

Sacrewell Farm, February 29

Look to the skies as Peterborough Astronomical Society return for their ever-popular Star Party. They will be bringing a range of telescopes and setting them up outside the Playbarn for explorers young and old to gaze into the unknown. Then join them for a wondrous tour of the universe as they take you on a journey through the Solar System using apps and technology that is available for all to use, meaning you can continue to explore on your very own smartphone.

Trial of Charles I

Huntingdon Town Hall, Feb 29

A dramatised reconstruction of the trial in January 1649. at 10.30am, 12noon, 2.30pm and 4pm. Performances will last about 70 minutes and tickets are £10.

Jon Boden is best known is the lead singer of the progressive folk juggernaut Bellowhead who sold 250,000 albums, had seven singles playlisted on Radio 2 and sold out hundreds venues including The Royal Albert Hall. Since Bellowhead split up in 2016 Jon has continued his development as one of the foremost names in English folk music. Solo Jon performs the self-penned songs of Painted Lady, material from Bellowhead, Spiers & Boden, Songs From The Floodplain, and his A Folk Song A Day project in which he recorded 365 folk songs in one year, material from his latest album Afterglow and more.
