Mary Berry opens new block at Stamford High School
A red carpet was laid out for the Great British Bake Off judge when she arrived at the school in High Street St Martin’s early this morning.
Mary gave an assembly to pupils and was shown around the school before opening the new home economics department.

Hide AdMary said: “I think it’s very exciting that it has all been refurbished and I think it’s immensely important that every girl in the school can cook when she leaves and when I say cook I mean nutritional, healthy meals.
“They also need to understand where the food comes from and how to prepare it in the best, simplest way - nothing too complicated.”
She added: “I think the school is wonderful, I have been to Stamford before but I haven’t visited this school before.
“Everybody has been wonderful, we’ve been staying at The George Hotel and have been immensely spoilt, it’s lovely.”

Hide AdPrincipal of Stamford Endowed Schools, Stephen Roberts said: “It’s been wonderful to have Mary Berry here today, its great the way she’s engaged with the students and I think the girls and boys will remember this day for years to come.”
Head Girl, Hannah Togasundram, who gave a vote of thanks to Mary, said: “There’s been a great atmosphere in the school, we’re all avid fans of the Bake Off and are all very surprised that she’s come to visit us - we’ve been very excited!”
Earlier Stamford Endowed Schools principal Stephen Roberts tweeted: “Honoured to have Mary Berry officially opening the new Home Economics rooms and Atrium at Stamford High School this morning. #GBBO #Stamford.”
And Stamford Junior School headteacher Emma Smith added via Twitter: “Stamford is buzzing! Mary Berry at Stamford High School today and Tom Cruise spotted in town whilst filming at Wittering! Rather exciting!”
