Peterborough arts organisation, Jumped Up, had originally planned to create a Northern Soul flash-mob in Cathedral Square as part of the now cancelled Vivacity Heritage Festival.

But they have found a new way to show that the spirit of Northern Soul in Peterborough is still alive and kicking by hosting a special dance session on Zoom at 11am on Saturday - which would have been the start of the festival.

“Since we started our Thursday morning Body & Soul classes three months ago we have had lots of requests for a session in the evenings or at the weekend. With gyms remaining closed and live events still not happening it feels a good time to invite more people to join us online to kick and stomp through an hour of dance and fitness on a Saturday morning, to music that really lifts your spirits,” explains Creative Producer Kate Hall.

The classes will be led by local dance and fitness instructor Chole Wilmot (pictured), and will run for six Saturday morning sessions, with the first on Sat 20 June free for all to take part.

Chloe has been leading Body & Soul sessions on Thursday mornings since lockdown, using Zoom, and has created a new community of Northern Soul dancers aged 16 – 70+.

Sign up to the session on the Jumped Up Theatre website’s Northern Soul of Peterborough pages, where this is also more information about how to take part in the regular classes and share your Northern Soul stories, clothes, and memorabilia.
