Springfields submits plans for major expansion with new stores, restaurants and 350 jobs

Following community consultation last year the retail centre’s owners, the Triton Property Fund LP managed by UBS Asset Management, have finalised plans which could see around 15 new stores plus three café/restaurant units being built.

In addition to new retail and leisure space which has been specifically designed to attract premium brands, the development at Springfields also provides further investment into improvements of the Festival Gardens, along with 236 additional parking spaces and the introduction of more electric vehicle chargers.

The improvements to Springfields are proposed on Camel Gate, on the site of the NFU Mutual building, and the car park next to Travelodge. The NFU Mutual already has planning permission for new offices to be built on a new site next to Springfields.

If approved, the new proposals are expected to attract more high-end fashion retail outlets and create around 350 new jobs, taking the total number of people employed at the centre to around 1,000.

Additionally, the new building for NFU Mutual will help to retain jobs in Spalding and provide them with modern offices.

Ian Sanderson of SLR Outlets, which operates Springfields Outlet, said: “Springfields has gone from strength to strength since opening over 15 years ago and I am proud that we can lead on this significant investment into Spalding.

“New high-quality retail and leisure space at Springfields Outlet will improve our offer to customers, cement our position as the leading shopping and leisure destination in the east of England, and create a large number of new jobs for local people.”

As part of the submitted plans, Springfields will work with the local authority and other stakeholders to ensure that the town centre and local area benefit from the expected increase in visitor numbers at the centre.

The final submitted proposals can be viewed on South Holland District Council’s website. A decision is expected in the summer.
