Deepings Swimming Club members Alex Sadler, Lucia Karic and Emma Dennis helped Lincolnshire to fifth place out of eight teams taking part in the junior inter-counties championships in Luton.

In the 11-year category Sadler finished third in the 50m butterfly and fifth in the 50m freestyle, setting new personal bests in both, while in the 10-year age group Karic was fifth in the 50m backstroke and Dennis fifth in the 50m breaststroke. Both were PBs.

Over the same weekend, Deepings competed in round five of the Junior Fenland League at Thetford.

The team finished fourth to qualify for the B Final on October 20.

Five swimmers won their age-group events. They were Pippa Everton in the 50m butterfly, Ed Trofimovas (50m breaststroke), Grace Edwards (50m backstroke), Maya Sangiorgio (25m butterfly) and Lola Fletcher (50m freestyle).

Everton also finished second in the 50m backstroke in a new personal best, while Fletcher gained PBs in the 50m backstroke and butterfly and Edwards knocked two seconds off her 50m butterfly best and added a second PB in the 50m breaststroke to cap an outstanding evening.

Club coach Lynn Chapman said: “I’m excited about the season ahead. Our swimmers have come back to training after the summer break fit and keen to do well. If they keep up their hard work and focus on their core skills, they’ll put in some excellent performances and achieve their goals.”
