SCOTTISH OPEN: Perry bows out in Glasgow

Joe Perry couldn't hide his frustration after bowing out of the Dafabet Scottish Open on day three of the competition.

The Chatteris cueist is ranked number 22 in the world and looked in excellent nick in his first-round win over China’s Chen Zifan.

But Perry came undone against fellow Englishman Stuart Carrington last night (December 13), going down 4-2 despite starting with an excellent break of 112.

“I started alright really, I just missed a few unforgivable easy balls at crucial times,” said Perry.

“I had a good chance in the balls to go 3-1 up early on and missed an easy red – that cost me the frame.

“From then on we both started missing a couple. It was pretty good up until that point and then I missed an easy red at 2-2, I got another chance to make it 3-3 and missed the ball.

“I played OK I just missed easy balls at wrong times and got punished. It always makes it doubly worse if you miss easy balls and you do get punished.

“I’ve played a lot of night matches these last two weeks and got into the routine of having little sleeps in the afternoon, just a little hour and I didn’t do that before this one.

“I had a practice booked in the afternoon and I went back and had quite a big meal which I don’t normally have, I just felt a little bit lethargic.

“I started well because I’m playing alright at the moment but as the match grew on I felt less and less good about it and got what I deserved really.”

The 43-year-old will now play at the D88 German Masters qualifiers in Barnsley next week, where he’ll face Joe Swail in the first round before taking a well-earned break.

“I’ll get these next qualifiers out of the way,” he added. “It’d be nice to qualify for Berlin because I’ve not been for a few years then I’ll look forward to some time off.

“I’ll have a nice Christmas with the kids and then me and the missus are going for a holiday after new year so I’ll get away from it all and come back refreshed.”

Cambridge-based potter Kurt Dunham is also out of the competition in Glasgow – the Australian lost 4-2 to Yorkshireman Peter Lines in their second-round encounter.
