Peterborough Welsh beat a Thorney Select XV 42-17 on Saturday (March 26) at the Ron Jacobs Playing Field at Thorney but the real winner was charity.

The game was in aid of Thorpe Hall and it’s hoped to have raised £600. A total of £430 was raised on the day, but the organisers are auctioning a ball signed by the Wales squad from this year’s Six Nations Championship on eBay and that should take the final amount to over £600.

Man-of-the-match was a close call but was awarded to Welsh stand-off Tom Williams for the way he controlled his back line against a disciplined Thorney defence. There were also good showings by brothers Owain and Dewi Pearce for the Welsh and by Tom Lewis and Reece Kenton for Thorney.
