The girls of Peterborough RUFC add another trophy to a bulging cabinet

And they immediately dedicated the silverware to injured team mates Tia Condon (pictured, with trophy) who missed the day after suffering a freak knee injury in training and Charlotte Badger who was sidelined with a wrist injury after a bicycle accident.

“It’s awesome,” said coach Ian Smith. “I’m really proud and that’s all I need to say.”

The under 15 team also played six short matches and only lost to old rivals Melbourne from Derbyshire, while the under 18s had three wins, a draw and a defeat from their five games.

“It’s just so good to be back playing again,” said girls’ section manager Simon Potter. “We’ve all had to do so much hard work behind the scenes to get games back on again, albeit under revised rules and not proper rugby rules, and it’s fantastic that we’re playing.

“Many of Loughborough Lightning’s Premiership stars, a lot of them international players, had all the time in the world to chat with our girls and sign autographs, which made it an absolutely fantastic day for everyone.”

The girls’ section at Peterborough now has more than 80 regular players, just five years after being set up, but they still would welcome new recruits in their under 18, under 15, under 13 and under 11 squads. Potential newcomers can contact [email protected].
