Borough travelled with a mixture of first and second team players plus a couple of colts, while the hosts also experimented with their line-up.

Heavy rain meant many ealy handling errors and a habit of trying to pass out of the tackle also caused problems, but Borough were unstoppabel once they hit their stride.

The city side ran in nine tries through Matt Waitman (2), Francis Cook (2), Dewi Pearce, Rob Jacobs, James Stuffins, Ross Chamberlain and Ryan Adams. Stuffins kicked four conversions, with Byron Van Uden (2) and Jacobs also kicking extras.

George Neale scores a try for Borough Under 16s at Rushden & Higham.

Manning said: “We were trying to do too much in the rain which was a bit frustrating, but once we settled down there was some good stuff.

“I used the game to take a look at a few of our colts and there was senior debuts for brothers George and Joseph Waitman, and man of the match Nicholas Harris.

“Nicholas was very impressive at scrum half. He showed a few of the senior players how to handle in the rain.”

Borough travel to Stamford for a friendly tomorrow (Friday) before taking a month off before pre-season,

** Borough Under 18s saw off Deeping 56-7 - their second big win in a row. Scorers: Tries - Finn James (2), Will Manning (2), Josh Webster (2), George Goy, George Harrison, Drew Nevill, Ellis Tyler. Conversions: Felix Anderson (2), Lawrence Teague.

**Borough Under 14s beat St Neots 47-33. Scorers: Tries - Ollie Moult (2), Tim Scott (2), Jack Wheatley (2), Daniel Roche. Conversions - Oliver Kirkman (4), Riley Kitchen (2).

Not such good news for the under 16 and under 15 teams though, who lost 41-21 and 40-31 respectively, away against Rushden & Higham.

Borough Girls beat Kesteven at Under 18 (49-5), under 15 (30-25) and under 13 level (score unrecorded).
