Peterborough RUFC back in touch with competitive action and a well deserved award for long-serving member

Eight teams took part in an event set up by the club’s new head coach, Shane Manning.

“We organised this event with eight teams from across all the sections of the club,” Manning said. “Everyone was keen to get back to safe competition.”

Club chairman Alan Graham added: “The club was really pleased with everyone’s efforts to get back to playing and trying to implement England Rugby’s phase D of the return to play continuum.

“We thought the best way to test the club’s efforts to make us Covid safe was to deliver an event.

“The day went brilliantly and we are now confident enough to invite other local clubs to Fengate in the coming weeks.”

The club have yet to learn when their Midlands Division season will start.

Meanwhile John Sismey has been named Borough’s clubman of the year in recognition of many years of service as a player, coach and administrator.

Sismey was a prolific winger who has scored more tries than any other player in the history of the club.

Sismey has also coached the academy over recent yearsand was responsible for the clubs O2 touch centre status.

He also organises the annual former players’ lunch.

“John is an incredible individual and is everything that is good about rugby. We are lucky to have people like him involved in our club,” said club president Andrew Burgess.
