They will receive a £35,000 grant from the Mick George Community Fund to help pay for new changing rooms.

Lions chairman Andy Moore said: “Peterborough Lions are immensely grateful for the grant from the Mick George Community Fund. It will make a huge difference not only to the players at the club, but also for the wider community as we will be able to host other sports and events at the site, as well as increasing player participation for the rugby club.

“The improvements we are able to make as a result of the grant will provide a facility for sport and leisure for both current and future generations.”

The new changing facilities are part of a five-year regeneration programme which will also add netball, basketball and tennis courts to the site.

Jon Stump, finance director at Mick George Ltd, commented: “Our business has associated itself with a number of local sports clubs in various ways, whether it be sponsorship arrangements or direct funding such as this. However, this is the first venture in to the world of rugby but one in which we are particularly proud to be involved.”
