Werrington Jogger raced to victory in a prestigious 'trail' race in Sussex
Werrington Jogger Henry Jarvis claimed first place in the competitive Westfield 7.5k trail race in Sussex.
Originally from Robertsbridge, East Sussex, Jarvis was a keen runner in his youth and represented Sussex at the 2009 English Schools Cross Country Championships as well as becoming the British Youth Duathlon Champion in the same year, subsequently clocking junior personal best times of 16:28 for 5km and 27:54 for five miles.

The 32 year-old joined Werrington Joggers in 2024 and in his first year won the club’s George Cant Trophy which recognises the efforts of an ‘unsung hero’ of the club.
The Westfield 7.5k is a mainly off-road route following the famous 1066 Country Walk path for the first 3km, passing the Bayeux Tapestry inspired Farbanks Henge sculptures, before returning via the hamlets of Little & Great Maxfield.
The course featured a mix of grass, small woodland sections, road path, and some steep hills. Jarvis said: “Underfoot it was slightly sloppy in places, especially on the grassy sections, making it a proper winter trail run.”
The route packed in around 430ft of elevation over 4.5 miles, so pacing was key to the city man’s success.
After a controlled start, Jarvis settled into a rhythm to enable him to manage effort on the climbs. The hills made it a tough, but fair course and gave him the opportunity to push on where the terrain allowed. Crossing the line first in 28:54, and apparently setting a new winter course record, it was a great way for Jarvis to finish his running year.
Jarvis added: “Big thanks to the race organisers, 1066 Trail Events, who continue to provide excellent local races and make running more accessible for the community.”
