The Yaxley Runners and Joggers club was built on solid foundations and they’ve achieved some hot results in the Frostbite League

Yaxley Runners and Joggers were formed on 13 May 1986, when 15 fitness-oriented villagers attended a meeting at Yaxley Church of England Primary school.

Originally a small village club their membership is now well into three figures thanks partly to a considerable surge in the population of their catchment area.

Although they attract runners from across the Peterborough region, their main hunting grounds are Yaxley and Hampton.

When the club was formed the area which became Hampton was mainly abandoned brickworks, and, fittingly, the club has been built on solid foundations which have seen them grow and flourish over the 35 years of their existence.

During his five year stint Farrow, along with his wife Tracy, set up a junior section which is now thriving and has produced talented runners such as Abbie Branston, Joe Wright and Ben Wright.

The original base was Yaxley Cricket Club’s pavillion but the club have had their headquarters in Hampton since 2002.

Yaxley promote themselves as a family friendly club with all abilities welcome, but one constant over recent years has been the excellence of their senior and veteran ladies.

Yaxley Runners are one of the eight original members of the Frostbite League, with their greatest success being a third place finish.

In season 2016/17, an achievement which highlighted the strength of both their men’s and ladies squads, James Mogridge won the March AC Frostbite race while Caroline Woods had three individual firsts to her name during the season.

Current Peterborough Nene Valley AC senior Richard Pawlak has been Yaxley’s most successful Frostbite youngster, coming home first for the club on no less than 26 occasions.

Perhaps Yaxley’s greatest achievement has been their seamless organising of the annual Folksworth 15 road race which they have hosted since 1990.

It has become one of the key races in the East of England for spring marathon runners, and online entries often reach their 500 limit within hours.

The 2021 race was due to take place last month, but the Covid-induced cancellation prevented an icy repeat of the 2018 event when a blizzard swept the course.
