Perry (13) won the second round of the 125cc class at the Paul Chapman & Sons Arena, overcoming a bad start to remain unbeaten in his final four rides of the meeting and top the podium.

Mechanical problems had denied him off the start line in the final at Scunthorpe a fortnight earlier, and he had further issues in his opening ride at Leicester before coming to grief on the last lap.

But Perry hit back strongly to win his remaining three outings in the qualifiers, including a tremendous effort to get the better of Ace Pijper on the run to the line in Heat Five.

Victory over Sonny Springer in heat eight ensured Perry topped the scorechart on countback, and he then made no mistake in the final to get the better of Springer once more, with Ben Trigger in third place after Pijper fell.

The series continues at King’s Lynn on Sunday (August 30) and Panthers fans wishing to take in the action can purchase limited tickets from www.kingslynn-speedway.com.

Perry was helped in his preparation by tuition from former Panthers number one and multiple world champion Jason Crump, who was on hand after the Panthers youngster rode his first laps on a 250cc bike.

Panthers owner Keith Chapman sung the praises of Perry after his thrilling success.

Chapman said: “It’s great to see Max, the Peterborough mascot, doing so well.

“There’s a talented crop of kids coming through and for Peterborough to have representation in the British Championship is something everyone at the club should be proud of.

“It would be great to welcome a few Peterborough fans to King’s Lynn on Sunday for what should be a great day of racing.”

The action in King’s Lynn starts at 5pm.
