With the match being played behind closed doors at Lincoln Road due to Peterborough being placed in tier three on Thursday, Sports showed great desire to secure a win after they went into the half-time break trailing 2-1.

It means Jimmy Dean's men are now just four rounds away from the Wembley final, but they will have to wait until the new year to see if they can progress any further, with the fourth round scheduled to be played on January 21.

Saturday's match got off to the worst possible start for Sports, with a free-kick evading everybody and deceiving goalkeeper Lewis Moult gifting Basford a 1-0 lead in just the second minute.

The Turbines responded really well and were level midway through the half thanks to a goal from Dion Sembie-Ferris.

The home side were enjoying plenty of possession and also created a number of chances, but it was the visitors who once again nicked the lead just before the break, making it 2-1 on 42 minutes.

Sports needed to produce a big second-half performance, and they did just that.

The equaliser was scored by Mark Jones, who headed home to make it 2-2, and just minutes later the game had been turned on its head when Jordan Nicholson fired home to put Sports 3-2 ahead with 15 minutes remaining.

Basford pressed for an equaliser, but Sports held firm and then the visitors were reduced to 10 men when they had a man sent off for a two-footed tackle on Brad McGowan.

It was a great result for Sports, who as yet don't know when they will next be playing with the Southern League Premier Central campaign currently suspended, and with no date decided for a restart.

It could be their next match will be in the FA Trophy in a month's time.
