The city ladies made the long trek up the A1 to tackle the Edinburgh Wolves and suffered a 34-20 defeat.

The game started with defensive stops for both teams to keep the game level in the early stages before Edinburgh quarterback Rylee Adamson scrambled home for the opening touchdown of the game to end the first quarter.

Ward then found Michelle Barkney with a two-point conversion pass to make it 20-8 to the hosts at half-time.

Ward’s scrambling touchdown and a score for Hayley Skipper after recovering a home fumble on halfway got Royals level, but Adamson rushed for two further Edinburgh touchdowns to complete the scoring.

Royals had been pipped by Leeds Chargers in their opening fixture.
