Panthers have been inactive since mid-September with just the final two rounds of the Pairs remaining on their schedule, and that was further delayed this week when Tuesday’s event at Leicester – itself a replacement for Sheffield – was postponed due to the effects of last weekend’s deluge.

That means tonight’s round at the National Speedway Stadium becomes the fifth of the series, with news awaited as to whether a finale can still take place.

With the league title decided in favour of Belle Vue, clubs are already turning their attentions towards 2023, although confirmed team-building regulations have yet to be rubber-stamped.

Panthers know they have a rebuilding job on their hands, although the full extent of that is unclear at this stage, and it seems likely there will be several new faces.

Co-promoter Carl Johnson said: “We’re putting things together for next year and as a club we’re actively looking at next season and who we want in the team.

“But before that we’ve still got two Pairs meetings to get through, and we want to finish this season strongly.

“We’re going into those meetings with the best two riders in the team at the minute, so hopefully we can get some good results there.”
