Fellow relegated National League side Bedford lost 5-3 at home to Saffron Walden.

Hide AdIt was tougher for the ladies who fell 1-0 down in the first-half of their Premier Division match, but a team who enjoyed an outstanding second-half of last season, rallied to win 3-1 with goals from Hannah Grimshaw, Tash Mountain and Lily Craven.
City men host Ipswich, who also won their first game, at Bretton Gate on Saturday (4pm). The ladies are also at home to Ipswich (1pm).
It was a decent East League start for the City club who fielded 12 teams and recorded six wins, three draws and three defeats.

Hide AdThe men’s second team went down 5-1 at home to Cambridge in Division One despite a goal from promising youngster Cole Bowtell, but the fourths eased to a 3-0 win at Cambridge South in Division Three with goals from Gary Hales, Will Astbury and Matt Carson-Doughty.
And in the same division City fifths came back from two goals down to beat a Cambridge University side 3-2 courtesy of goals from Matthew Wallace, Michael Boyle and Max Cave.
There were lower division draws for the club’s sixth, seventh and eighth teams. Adam Humphreys and prolific Phil Martin scored for the sixths at Spalding, debutant Harry Ingram and new skipper Simon Leon netted for the sevenths at Kettering and a smart finish from Steve Browning gave the eighths a point at home to St Ives.

Lower down the leagues The fourths had a commanding 5-0 victory at home to Cambridge South with goals from Ellie Neale (2), Helen Stevens, Esther Potter and Sue Thorpe, but the fifths lost a tight contest 1-0 at Wisbech.
