Local cyclist Wishart is a National champion, and some impressive results from his Fenland Clarion clubmates
Fenland Clarion Club cyclist Evander Wishart is a National Junior Road Race champion.
Wishart retains a local membership despite now racing for the high class Decathlon CMA CGM team and he took first place over a demanding 76-mile undulating course in Harrogate.

All the breakaway action arrived in the last three laps, but on the final climb to the finish line it was Wishart who had gauged his effort the best to claim the victory.
Wishart had delivered an excellent second-place finish in the Junior Time Trial Championships the day before. It’s Wishart’s weaker event, but he finished just 22 seconds behind the winner.

Locally round 10 of the summer Friday Night Summer mountain bike series was held at Husband Bosworth and Fenland Clarion’s Paul Asplin remains in ninth place overall in the Grand Super Vets following his strong seventh place finish on the night.
The grasstrack season is also gathering momentum and long-serving Fenland Clarion star Lindsay Clarke showed her quality once again with a battling third place in the ladies 800 metre discipline at the East Markham event near Newark.
The local club’s Bluebell series of time trials continues weekly until mid August and Luke Dolby was the latest winner with his 21:59 clocking ahead of Ian Waddilove in second with 23:15 and leading lady Clarke an excellent third overall in 24:19 while youth rider John Robinson continued his improvement with a competitive 24:37 underlining his potential.
Fenland Clarion’s popular youth races provided success for some local riders. On a scorchingly hot summer evening it was the under 8s who provided the best competition and Fenland’s Theo Siberry did well to hold off the challenges of Bourne Wheelers’ Finley Hides.
James Lloyd continues to make great progress and was pleased to lead clubmate Penny Robinson into the top spot in the under 10s event with Mylo Wan taking the honours in the under 12s and John Robinson in the under 14s it completed a successful nights racing for the local youngsters.
Fenland Clarion are hosting another evening of youth cycle racing this Friday (July 10) at The Embankment Athletic Track on Bishops Road. Entries are taken from 6pm with racing starting at 6.30pm. It’s suitable for all school age youngsters with novices always most welcome. Contact Malc at [email protected] for further details.
