The locally-based Danish star returns to the Peterborough fold a decade after last representing the city club.

Iverson was excited about making a second club debut in tonight’s Premiership Supporters Cup tie against King’s Lynn at the Esat of England Arena, but competition has been delayed because of the coronavirus

Iversen’s name will be forever etched into the history books as a member of the Elite League title-winning team of 2006.

Now the Grand Prix ace is back hunting more success as their spearhead for the SGB Premiership season of 2020 when – or if – it begins under new team boss Rob Lyon.

“I am glad to be back at Peterborough,” said Iversen.

“It’s 10 years since I last rode for Peterborough and it was nice to pull on the Panthers suit again.

“The team looks good and I know the management well from my time at King’s Lynn. Rob has a lot of experience and is a good guy to bring spirit into the team. He also has the knowledge to bring a little bit extra out of every rider.

“It’s quite an old team – we can’t really lie about that!

“I don’t think this is a bad thing, though, as we have so much experience and quality.

“We should be able to perform really well at away meetings as well as at home.”

Iversen is understandably itching to get out onto the track and do what we does best, but he appreciates there are bigger priorities right now as the coronavirus pandemic is tackled.

It is a particularly concerning period for speedway riders who are unlikely to be earning money anytime soon. They are paid for the points they score on track. Many will have also invested heavily ahead of a new season with Iversen revealing he has spent more than £80,000 on a new van and all of his racing equipment. He also has a team of mechanics working for him.

“It is a worrying time everyone and speedway riders are no different,” added Iversen.

“We’re going into the unknown and there is so much uncertainly about the situation.

“I can see that a lot of Europe has seemed to take it a lot more seriously than we did here for a while.

“I’m not a doctor or a scientist so I can’t really say what is right or wrong, but I think everyone is a bit scared about what is going to happen.

“I can’t work right now and there are millions of other people in that situation.

“I’ve invested a lot of money for this season and I have three mechanics working for me, so those guys are obviously worried too.

“I’m obviously eager to go racing but this is not the right circumstances for riders or for fans.

“It’s a frustrating time for everyone, but we all have to make sure we stay positive and hopefully we can get through it soon.”
