Dream debut for Zaid and a cracking contest for Top Yard Boxing clubmate Junayd

Young Top Yard Boxing Club fighter Zaid Jawad-Ismail made a superb start to his amateur career.

The 14 year-old was in Hull to take on the slightly more experienced Finley Elliot from Titans Boxing Club at 54kg and it turned into a dream debut as the local lad won with a second round technical knockout.

It was a cagey first round until Jawad-Ismail unloaded a couple of big right hands just before the bell to force a standing eight count.

Jawad-Ismail continued where he had left off in the second round and boxed with even more aggression and power. After landing a few more heavy right hands the referee had to step in and stop the contest.

Top Yard’s Junayd Ali (23, 73kg) topped the bill in Hull against home fighter Saul Matchett from Vulcan ABC and the pair delivered an exciting toe-to-toe contest.

Ali, who was having his 43rd amateur fight, lost the first two rounds, but finished the bout strongly to pinch the third round with Matchett just holding on for the majority points win.

Top Yard now look forward to top talents Ismail Arif and Aamir Shirazi making their ring returns in the NABGC championships, a national open-class tournament, which commences on October 31.
