City, who are playing at the highest level in the club’s history, are next-to-bottom in the table having won just one of their 10 league games so far ahead of tomorrow’s (February 1) home match with Loughborough Students at Bretton Gate (1.30pm).

It’s the first competitive match for almost two months for City.

Only the bottom team is definitely relegated, but the next-to-bottom team with the worst record from either the North or South Division also goes down and that is currently City.

But City skipper Ross Booth said: “We found ourselves in a similar position last season knowing that we must improve to move up the table.

“But we have the confidence and the belief amongst the players that we are only a small tweak away from getting the results we need.

“It is a very tough league, but you can be sure that we will all be stepping up to take games to our opposition in the second half of the season.

“We are confident we can get something from the Loughborough game.”

City put up a good fight at Loughborough earlier in the season before losing 4-2.

City have warmed up for a return to National League action with competitive friendlies.

Simon Miles and Joe Finding scored in a 2-1 win over Bedford, while Brendan Andrews (2) and Finding netted in a 3-3 draw with National Conference League leaders Belper.
