Club chairman Sam Hunter said: “This is the culmination of years of saving and planning by the club and now gives us the best surface available.”

Sport England’s director of property Charles Johnston said: “Sport England is delighted to support this major refurbishment of Peterborough Indoor Bowls Centre which will enable the club to offer even more local people the opportunity to play bowls and boccia and enjoy the benefits of being active.”

The club is the venue for national, county and local competitions and is often used by other counties as a neutral venue.

The club, established in 1959, has over the past year undergone a major facelift with new carpets and furniture throughout.

The club has a diverse membership of 800 people of which around 500 are registered bowling members. And they are looking to increase that number to help build up the many leagues which run from 9.45am until 8.15pm six days a week.

The club is also home to a group of blind bowlers, two darts teams, two pool teams, an archery club and two boccia teams.

With 50% of the membership above retirement age, the club works towards keeping fees as low as possible, especially for the many disability groups who use the facility.

The club will hold a grand opening on Saturday September 29 with a FREE OPEN DAY for people to try Indoor bowling on Sunday September 30 from 10am to 4pm.
