MATCH PREVIEW: City believe their forwards will run riot this season!

City of Peterborough believe that have the firepower to challenge for the East Premier A Division title.

City opened their campaign with a 5-3 win at newly-promoted Saffron Walden last Saturday (September 17).

They have a far tougher game against St Albans at Bretton Gate tomorrow (September 24, 1pm), but manager Graham Finding is confident his side will again hold their own against the best.

City finished second last season. St Albans, who prised talented youngster Adam Wilson away from Bretton Gate in the summer, finished third.

“It was a below par performance against Saffron Walden,” Finding stated. “But it’s the sign of a good side to win when not at your best, particularly away from home.

“We were missing a couple of players, but the number of scoring options we now have is very encouraging.

“We have a forward line that could run riot this season. There could be some exciting times ahead.”

New recruit, Sam Blunt opened the scoring for City after 30 seconds at Saffron Walden and went on to claim man-of-the-match honours.

Will Astbury struck twice from short corners, while Ross Ambler and another new boy Danny Sisson also scored.

City expect to have Aussie Robbie Muir back at the club within the next fortnight.

City seconds also started with a 5-3 win in the Premier B Division. Old Southendians were their victims with Oscar Sadikot scoring twice.

Matthew Carson bagged a hat-trick for City of Peterborough thirds, but it was in a losing cause as Cambridge City thirds ran out 7-3 winners in a Division One match.

There were wins for City fourths and fifths, but the sixths sevenths and eighths were all beaten.

City of Peterborough Ladies were also victorious on opening day. Sisters Anna and Emma Faux scored in a 2-0 Division One North win over Lowestoft.

City are at St Ives tomorrow.
