Lots of fun and plenty of flair at the Beach Sevens
Over 2,000 rugby fans flocked to Fengate on Saturday to watch the big annual sevens tournament.
Hosted by Peterborough Rugby Club and organised by SRG Events, the SRG Beach Sevens tournament (so-called because of its Hawaiian fancy dress theme) had been awarded English Championship status with the winners of the main competition - the SRG Elite Ricky Fever Cup - qualifying for the national championships.
That honour went to a talented GB Students seven, who entertained the big crowd to some vintage sevens play.
And there was plenty of quality on display in the main women’s event. SRG Bubbles were the winners of that and their side was made up entirely of international players from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
Several local teams managed to get among the prizes.
The Audi Social Cup was won by SRG Sharks - a team featuring Lions players past and present Reggie Reed, Pete Kolakowski, Vernon Horne, Will Carrington, Duncan Low and Adam Peel - while the Vivacity Touch Rugby Cup was won by Hampton Hurricanes.
The Hurricanes was a team comprising Borough players past and present. They were Steve Pretsell, Natalie Pretsell, Paul Booth, Paul Cook, Darren James, John Griffin, Reece Harry, Levan Stapleton, Tim Davison and Dave Brudnell.
