Pete Morgan’s men bashed the current champions Bracebridge Heath by 84 runs at the Abbey Lawns yesterday (May 7) to move into third place in the table.

It was a second big win on the bounce for Bourne who made 220-9 in their 50 overs before dismissing Bracebridge for 136. Paceman Colin Cheer (5-51) and new off-spinner Ben Collins (4-29) claimed nine wickets between them.

It wasn’t such a good day by the seaside for Market Deeping who suffered an 18-run reverse at Skegness after throwing away dominant positions in both innings. The consolation for Deeping is they remain second, four points clear of their arch-rivals down the road.

“We should have the full 60 points,” Deeping captain Dave Gillett moaned. “We bowled and fielded well, but made some poor decisions with the bat. I include myself in that as I chased a wide one when I was well set.”

Skegness were 71-7 before recovering to 154 all out. Lee Peacock bowled superbly for Deeping taking 5-33 before running out of puff before his allocation of overs was complete.

In reply Deeping were 119-5 when Gillett was dismissed for 30. Jamie Morgan had batted fluently for 43, but West Indian pace-man Ray Jordan - ‘the slipperiest bowler in the league’ according to Gillett - proved too hot to handle on his way to 6-43.
