Peterborough Town Titans made a blistering entrance into the 2016 Jaidka Cup competition last night (May 19).

The city side smashed 223-3 in the Twenty/20 competition at Barnack Eagles to set up a massive 136-run win and virtually ensure their passage into the quarter-finals.

Asim Butt, who plays for Barnack in the Rutland League. smashed a brutal unbeaten 92 and was well supported by opener Alex Mitchell who made 60. Butt hammered six sixes and six fours in his rapid knock.

Fast bowler Joe Dawborn then bagged 5-27 as the home side were dismissed for just 87. Teenager Mohammed Danyaal and Jamie Green each claimed two wickets with Shazad Amir (37) top scoring for Barnack.

This season the Jaidka Cup committee has introduced quarter finals to the competition meaning only two of the 10 entrants will be eliminated after three weeks of group matches.

Wisbech qualified for the knockout stages by beating Ramsey by 16 runs last night to make it two wins from two matches for the Wildcats. Wisbech skipper Sam Albutt scored 52 for Wisbech with in-form Taylor West cracking 50 for Ramsey Raiders. Jamie Gollands (2-16) checked Ramsey’s progress.

Town play Castor Harlequins at Bretton Gate on June 1 in their final group match. Castor and Barnack have a decisive group match at Port Lane on May 25.
