Hornsby and McCrae set newNene Valley indoor records

James McCrae and Emma Hornsby were the stars of the show for Nene Valley, both setting club age group records.

The 19 year old Birmingham University student McCrae ran a season’s best 1:56.60 in his 800m heat, and followed that up with a personal best (PB) of 1:55.47, for third place in his semi-final.

Unfortunately it wasn’t quite enough to make the final with only the first two going through. McCrae missed out by just 0.5 o

f a second, but was able to console himself with a time that moved him up to 16th in the national age group rankings.

Peterborough AC’s Amittai Ben-Israel ran a season’s best 2:02.61 in McCrae’s heat, but it was not fast enough for the Paul Larkins-coached 19 year-old to continue his involvement in the competition.

Hornsby won her long jump qualifying pool, but missed out on a medal when finishing fifth in the final. The 19 year-old Loughborough University student made a big leap forward, however, as her jump of 5.60m in the final was an improvement of 6cm on her previous longest jump.

She is now ranked 15th in her Under 23 national age group.

Nene Valley’s Jake Berney finished fourth in his heat of the 60m with a 7.34 clocking, which was not fast enough to see him progress.

Peterborough Athletic Club’s Zoheb Arif ran a PB of 7.65 in the same event but was also unable to get beyond the heats.

Nene Valley all-rounder Ellie-Mae Stokes suffered a similar fate in the girls 60m, although as a first year student she was amongst the youngest competitors in her event.

Stokes also acquitted herself well in the triple jump, as did clubmate Emily Maltby, who agonisingly missed out on a place in the final by one centimetre.

Helen Chapman ran season’s bests of 29.49 in her 200m heat and 66.71 in the 400m, but failed to progress, as did 20 year old Harrier Sean Garmory in the men’s 400m.

EASTERN/SOUTHERN VETS

Four Peterborough AC members won medals at the Eastern/Southern Vets Indoor Championships at Lee Valley.

Stacy McGivern won Southern and Eastern gold in the 400m, Wendy Perkins Southern and Eastern bronze in the 400m, James Sadlier Southern and Eastern gold in the 800m and Matthew Dalton Southern and Eastern gold in the 60mhurdles and Eastern silver in the 60m.
