Hannah the hot-shot grabs another gold

Competing in the England Athletics Indoor Age Group Championships at Sheffield over the weekend, the 14 year-old Geoff Capes-trained youngster dominated the Under 17 event to take the title with a throw of 14.22m, which was just three centimetres off the championship-best performance.

She won by almost half a metre competing against mainly 15 and 16 year-olds.

In the same competition two more Nene Valley girls made the top 10. Priscilla Dadzie was eighth with 11.64m and Tierney Augustine ninth with 11.58m.

Peterborough Athletic Club also had a medallist at the championships.

Werrington-based Megan Porter went into the weekend with a target of getting into the top five in the Under 17 women’s high jump and exceeded those expectations by winning a bronze medal and picking up a PB of 1.67m in the process.

That effort saw her finish the indoor season ranked fifth in the UK.

Georgia Price almost won another high jump medal for PAC in the Under 15 girls event. She finished fourth on countback with 1.55m.

Sprint hurdler Josh Akinwumi smashed the Nene Valley club record when qualifying for the Under 17 men’s 60m hurdles final with a time of 8.21.

In the final he hit the first hurdle and struggled to recover but still finished a creditable seventh.

Nene Valley’s 18 year-old middle distance runner James McCrae finished fifth in the Under 20 men’s 1500m.

His time of 4:00:83 was just under a second outside his PB set last winter before injury blighted his 2015 track season.

On the day before his 19th birthday, Kane Wright of Nene Valley narrowly missed out on a place in the final of the Under 20 men’s 60m, despite winning his heat and finishing third in the semi-final.

Ellie Forrest (PAC) was knocked out in the Under 17 girls 60m hurdles semi-finals, but not before she had made a good impression when qualifying from her heat in a PB of 9.62.
