Other excellent Milton morning performances came from Herson and Jacob Williams (3 handicap) in the gross competition. They both shot 76 to be joint leaders going into the second round.
Williams started the aftrenoon round slowly, but rallied to shoot 74 to finish one shot behind the winner Mark Stockdale of Overstone Park. Herson was in touch until halfway after a birdie blitz over the front nine, but eventually finished fourth, and third in the nett score event.
Rylan Thomas finished a creditable eighth in the gross competition.
