TRANSFER LATEST: McCann defends Taylor sale

The 24 year-old winger agreed a three-year deal with the Millers today (Agust 3). Posh are expected to receive a fee in the region of £500,000 for a player who was not expected to be a regular in McCann’s starting line-up this season.

McCann claimed the sale of Taylor was necessary after the arrival of midfielders Gwion Edwards and Brad Inman from Crawley and Crewe this summer. The manager insisted it was nothing to do with a perceived inability of Taylor to play in a midfield diamond.

“Everyone’s happy,” McCann said. “Jon wants to play in the Championship and we have received a good fee for him.

“After I signed Gwion Edwards and Brad Inman I had a surplus of midfielders.

“The two I have signed will be very good players. Jon is also a good player, but I had to let someone go.

“It’s nothing to do with not being able to play in a midfield diamond as Jon showed under Graham Westley that he can.”
