Spalding United sign a defender from the National League
Spalding United have signed defender Michael Kelly from National League side Boston United.
Kelly had previously played for Scunthorpe United under the management of current Spalding boss Jimmy Dean. Kelly was on loan at National League North side Chester last season and helped the club make a late charge into the play-offs.
The 28-year-old spent time in the youth ranks at Aberdeen and Leicester City before making his Football League debut with Bristol Rovers. He made 46 appearances for Rovers between 2017 and 2021.
Spalding will be playing at National League North level for the first time in the 2026-27 season.
“Michael brings valuable experience from this level and above, adding quality, leadership and strength to our defensive options,” a Spalding spokesman said.
Kelly could make his debut for Spalding in a friendly against AFC Rushden & Diamonds on Tuesday evening (7.45pm kick off) alongside another new signing, midfielder Shane Byrne.
