RUN-IN: Manager McCann predicts a points bonanza from Peterborough United's remaining games

Posh manager Grant McCann fancies his side's chances in their final 10 games.

Posh slipped to 10th in League One last night (March 8). They have 50 points with 10 matches to go and are eight points off the play-off places.

Barnsley sneaked into the play-offs with 74 points last season so to match that Posh would have to win an unlikely eight of their their final 10 games.

Chesterfield finished sixth with 69 points the previous season, but that’s also a total likely to be beyond Posh.

Marcus Maddison will have to find his best form if Posh are to gatecrash the play-offs.

“I actually like our run-in,” Posh boss Grant McCann said.

“There are many games left where we think we have a great chance of collecting three points.

“We’ve started to show better home form (Posh have won two of their last three at the ABAX) and we’ve been pretty good on our travels all season.”

Posh have won just seven of their 18 League One home matches so far this season. That’s the 14th-best record in the division.

Posh host Oxford on Saturday (March 11), while Oldham (March 18), Charlton (April 1), Fleetwood (April 15) and Bristol Rovers (April 22) all have to visit the ABAX this season.

Posh have won seven and lost eight of their 18 away games so far, the sixth best record in the division.

Posh still have to travel to Chesterfield (March 14), Gillingham (March 25), Coventry (April 8) and AFC Wimbledon (April 17) before finishing the season at promotion-chasing Bolton on Sunday, April 30.

Posh still have work to do to arrest a five-year decline in form.

Since Posh finished 18th in the Championship in 2011-12, it’s been downhill all the way.

Posh were relegated in 22nd place in 2012-13 (ironically with four more points than they collected the season before), and their three finishing positions in League One since have been sixth, ninth and 13th.

Their points tallies in the three previous League One seasons were 74, 63 and 63.
