RIP Alan Mutton: Long-serving local football director and referee has passed away

Peterborough football is in mourning as stalwart league official and referee Alan Mutton passed away last night (June 4).

Mutton was a long-serving director of the Peterborough & District League, acting as vice-chairman among many other roles. He was also the current vice-chairman of the Peterborough Football And Sports Development Foundation (PFSDF), a charity aiming to promote community participation in healthy recreation by providing facilities for the playing of association football and other sports capable of improving health.

Mutton was close to receiving an award to recognise his 50 years service as a referee.

Darren Fogg, the vice-chairman of the PFSDF, said: “It’s a very sad loss to Peterborough football. Alan was a tireless worker on behalf of the Peterborough League and the PFSDF.

“I can’t speak highly enough of his contribution to the city’s football scene whether he was working on committees or refereeing.”

Alan leaves his partner, Sue.
