POSH LATEST: Washington thanks Westley after signing a three-and-a-half year deal

Conor Washington's last goal for Posh, a thumping header in the 2-0 FA Cup win over Preston at the ABAX Stadium.

Washington formally completed his move to Championship club QPR today (January 19) for an undiclosed fee, believed to be slightly in excess of the £2.5 million widely reported last night.

Washington (23), who has signed a three-and-a-half year contract, could make his QPR debut in a live televised Championship game against Wolves at Loftus Road on Saturday (January 23, 12.30pm kick-off, live on Sky Sports).

Washington, who was playing United Counties Premier Division football for St Ives Town four years ago, tol the QPR FC press team: “In the last 18 months, I feel I have improved as a player and I feel my mentality has changed. Graham Westley has really helped my development since he came in at Peterborough and I really enjoyed my time with the football club.

“As a striker, having someone like Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink at QPR as manager was a massive pull for me. He’s been there, seen it and done it at the very highest level and that can only benefit me as a player.

“I know I’ve still got a long way to go in my development, but I’m relishing the chance to prove my worth. I’ve proved I can do it at every level I’ve played at so far, so I don’t see any reason why I can’t do it here with QPR.

“I can’t wait to pull on the QPR shirt and show the fans what I’m capable of.”

Washington becomes Hasselbaink’s first signing as QPR boss and the R’s gaffer is pleased to have added to his attacking options.

“Conor is a player I’ve admired for a while now, so I’m delighted he’s agreed to join us.

“I’ve seen first-hand what he’s capable of and his all round game has always impressed me. Of course he’s still got a lot to learn – he’s by no means the finished article – but I am convinced he has what it takes to succeed at a higher level with us.”

Washington is likely to have at least quadrupled his Posh wages. He scored 33 goals for Posh following his arrival for £150,000 from Newport County in January 2014.

Posh have subsequently paid Newport an additional £70,000. Newport are also entitled to 20 per cent of the profit Posh have made.

Washington is the eighth Posh player to be sold for over £1 million in the last four years. He is the joint-fourth highest Posh sale alongside Craig Mackail-Smith.
