POSH LATEST: Plenty for Peterborough United to play for including a desire to please the '˜amazing' fans.

A first win in eight League One matches at Doncaster last weekend (March 19) has left Posh in mid-table limbo, 10 points from the play-off places and 11 points from the relegation zone.

But Westley insists the final nine games are crucial to the club’s preparations for next season. He also wants to reward the 1,400-plus travelling fans for their superb support at Doncaster with a first home win of 2016 against Coventry tomorrow (March 25, 7.45pm kick-off).

“Considering the run we had been on, the support at Doncaster was amazing,” Westley stated. “To turn up in such numbers and to back us so well was appreciated and I’m just glad we were able to end the bad run we’ve been on.

“Now we need to win some games at home for them.

“We still believe there is plenty to play for. You want to win every game you play and we want a strong finish to set us for next season.”

Posh have not won at home In League One since Boxing Day when Chesterfield were beaten 2-0. Posh beat Preston in the third round of the FA Cup at the ABAx Stadium on January 9, but have lost their last five League One home matches to Burton, Bradford, Oldham, Swindon and Port Vale.

One more would be a club record in the Football League era. They’ve lost five in a row on three previous occasions.

Posh lost the last four home games of the 2005-06 season that ended in relegation from League One to Colchester (0-3), Huddersfield (1-2), Walsall (0-2), MK Dons (0-3), and then the first game of the following season to Chester (0-1).

In the relegation season from the Championship in 2009-10, Posh finished their home campaign by losing to Doncaster (1-2), Bristol City (0-1), Newcastle (2-3), Leicester (1-2) and Blackpool (0-1).

During the awful start to the 2012-13 Championship season Posh lost their first five home games to Millwall (1-2), Leeds (1-2), Bristol City (1-2), Wolves (0-2) and Forest (0-1).
