The former Exeter striker limped off in the closing stages of Saturday’s League One 2-1 defeat to Rochdale with a knee injury.

Westley said: “He will probably not be back in action now until pre-season after having a scan, which is a shame because I thought he did very well on Saturday.

“He has reached the level that he is right now. He got three shots away, delivered six crosses, received 29 balls and retained the ball 90% of the time.

“I thought it was his best performance in a Posh shirt and he contributed to the game more than he has before.”

Nichols arrived at Posh in the January transfer window and has scored one goal in seven appearances.
