POSH BOSS SEARCH: Portuguese manager Jose wants the Peterborough United manager's job

The 41-year old says he has sent his CV to Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony and director of football Barry Fry and is awaiting a response.

Dominguez has previously managed in his homeland of Portugal, including a spell as boss of Sporting Lisbon’s B team. He most recently managed in Colombia at Real Cartagena, a post he left last year.

Dominguez recently applied without success for the Walsall manager’s post. He carries a reference from legendary, ultra-successful manager Jose Mourinho.

Dominguez played for Spurs, Benfica, Sporting Lisbon and Birmingham among others. He was managed by Fry at Birmingham between 1993 and 1995 and became a firm fans’ favourite with the Blues faithful thanks to some dazzling wing displays.

Dominguez would employ former team-mate and Ireland international Kenny Cunningham as his assistant.

When speaking to the Express & Star after applying for the Walsall job, Dominguez said: “My aim is to get back to England because I love the passion and the speed of the game.

“I’m an attacking coach who wants to play with the ball and I want to work with young and talented players who are mobile.

“It’s England where I want to be. When I was a player at Tottenham and Birmingham I’d collect the ball and the crowd would roar.

“I played in full stadiums in Portugal and Germany but you never get the atmosphere you get in England.”

“With Sporting Lisbon’s ‘B’ team we finished fourth, I helped nine players develop to the first team and sold others for a combined €28 million.

“I have a fantastic relationship with Sporting Lisbon and I know many young talented players in Portugal and Spain.”

Dominguez would be a ‘left-field’ choice, but MacAnthony has been known to make those before.

Current Leeds United manager Steve Evans remains the 15/8 favourite to succeed Graham Westley. Evans is waiting to see if he will be kept on at Elland Road for next season.

There has been some support for current Posh caretaker-manager after he steered the side to a dramatic 4-3 League One win at Shrewsbury yesterday (April 30).

McCann is now 3/1 joint-second favourite with Steve Cotterill, the man who managed Bristol City to the League One title last season.

No interviews are expected to be held until the end of the season. Posh have one game remaining, at home to Blackpool on Sunday (May 8, 12.30pm).
