Plenty to celebrate on and off the pitch for Peterborough Sports, Stamford see red twice, but book a cracking FA Trophy tie, losing start for new Peterborough Northern Star manager, Hill-Seekings at the double for Whittlesey Athletic

Peterborough Sports celebrated new contracts for manager Jimmy Dean and key players Dion Sembie-Ferris and Maniche Sani by winning 4-0 at Hitchin Town in the second round of the FA Trophy today (December 12).

Sembie-Ferris scored twice in between goals from Lewis Hilliard and Dan Jarvis as Sports booked a third round date with same level Basford United of the Northern Premier League at the Bee Arena next Saturday (December 19). Basford are currently second in their top flight.

The city side played superbly on the break in the first-half at Hitchin to take a 2-0 lead through Hilliard, from the side’s first attack, and Sembie-Ferris, thanks to a fierce drive. The latter delivered another fantastic finish after the break with Jarvis completing the scoring with a close range header from Jarvis.

Goalkeeper Lewis Moat enjoyed a strong first-half for Sports against fellow Southern League Central Premier Division opponents.

Less than 24 hours before the game Sports announced contract extensions for Dean, Sembie-Ferris and Sani to the end of the 2021-22 season.

Stamford AFC have a cracking second round tie at home to National North League high fliers Kidderminster Harriers on Tuesday (December 15, 7,45pm) after winning 2-0 at Kidsgrove Athletic in a delayed first round tie today.

It was far from plain sailing for the Daniels who saw two players receive red cards. Josh Thorpe was dismissed 20 minutes from time when Stamford were leading through a 36th minute Tom Siddons goal.

Unused substitute San Wright was then sent off following an altercation with a home supporter, but half-time sub Harry Vince secured victory for the 10 men nine minutes from time.

An upset win for Stamford would propel them into the fourth round as scheduled third round opponents Macclesfield Town have withdrawn from the competition.

It was always going to be a tough ask for Lloyd Burton to make a winning managerial debut for Peterborough Northern Star against Lutterworth Town and so it proved. Star went down 4-1 in the United Counties Premier Division with Joseph Kelly claming the consolation goal.

James Hill-Seekings scored twice as Whittlesey Athletic drew their Division One game with Irchester 2-2 at Feldale Field. Whittlesey are ninth.
