The 28 year-old made his name as a rampaging midfielder at Stevenage, but he was used almost exclusively as a centre-back by Posh last season.

Bostwick points to the strength of the club’s play-makers as the reason for his re-positioning.

“I won’t get into our midfield as I am nowhere near as good as the other midfielders in the squad,” Bostwick admitted. “We have some outstanding talent in that area of the pitch, especially now we have signed Gwion Edwards and Brad Inman.

“We are spoilt for choice. The competition for places is going to be really strong in all positions.

“We have four good central defenders now and like that. Every player in the squad knows they will have to play well to keep hold of the shirt.

“I enjoyed playing in midfield, but I have also come to enjoy playing at the back.

“I felt I did okay last season, but I could have been better. In some games I was nowhere near good enough.

“The collective performance is all that matters anyway. I’m not happy if I play well and the team doesn’t.”

Bostwick was one of several captains used by Posh last season, but he’s happy the armband has now passed to Chris Forrester.

Bostwick added: “Chris is the perfect captain. All the players respect him as a person and as a player. If he speaks we all listen.

“Chris was outstanding for us last season and he will be even better next season.”

Posh are expected to play a midfield diamond under new manager Grant McCann.

Edwards and Inman will battle for starting midfield places with Forrester, Adil Nabi, Leo da Silva Lopes, Jermaine Anderson, Jon Taylor, Callum Chettle and Marcus Maddison.

Posh are trying to sell midfielder Harry Beautyman with League One rivals Swindon believed to be interested.

Posh play their first pre-season friendly at Boston United on Saturday (July 9). They travel to Boreham Wood on Monday (July 11).
