Will Peterborough United be tempted to rescue any of these players from footballing limbo?

Peterborough United director of football Barry Fry fears for the future of hundreds of lower division players.

Fry believes a healthy percentage of players released this summer will struggle to find new clubs because of financial pressures.

Fry said: “Everyone at our club including the chairman, the manager and me, warned the PFA that hundreds of their members would be out of work at the end of the season unless financial help had arrived.

“The number of players looking for new clubs next season is scary as there will be a lot of downsizing going on.

“Players will be in limbo until clubs know when we can sign them. It must be a worrying time for them.”
