Fry believes a healthy percentage of players released this summer will struggle to find new clubs because of financial pressures.
Fry said: “Everyone at our club including the chairman, the manager and me, warned the PFA that hundreds of their members would be out of work at the end of the season unless financial help had arrived.
“The number of players looking for new clubs next season is scary as there will be a lot of downsizing going on.
“Players will be in limbo until clubs know when we can sign them. It must be a worrying time for them.”
Here are some players who could be available in the summer and who might interest Posh. They include former Posh players signed for the club by current boss Darren Ferguson and transfer targets of the past...
1.
JORDAN CLARK: Attacking player out of contract at Accrington. Posh boss Darren Ferguson is a fan, but not sure where he'd fit into the 3-4-1-2 formation. Posh interest: 8/10.
2.
DUNCAN WATMORE: Stiker who was of interest to Posh before he joined Sunderland. Promising career held back by injuries hence his release. Posh interest 3/10.
3.
KIERAN SADLIER: Out of contract at Doncaster and has now left the club after failing to agree terms. This attacking midfielder has been a thorn in Posh's side in recent seasons. A former Posh player signed by Dave Robertson. Posh interest 7/10.
4.
REECE BROWN: Still under contract at Huddersfield, but this midfielder is unlikely to play for the Cowley brothers so could become available. Impressed on loan at Posh last season. Posh interest: 8/10.
